Mississippi Reproductive Medicine provides a full range of testing and treatment for all causes of infertility. These include testing for ovulation, tubal patency, and male factor. Semen analysis is done in the MRM laboratory along with intrauterine insemination. Ovulation induction with both oral and injectable medications is available.
Preimplantation genetic screening (PGS) is performed on the embryo to determine if the chromosomes of the embryo are normal. Embryos with too few or too many chromosomes, if transferred, will most often result in a failure to achieve pregnancy, but may result in a miscarriage. In rare cases, abnormal embryos could result in the birth of a child with a chromosomal abnormality. By testing at the embryo stage, these types of problems may be avoided. Transfer of an embryo with normal chromosomes does not guarantee a normal pregnancy. Most PGS cases at MRM involve testing at the blastocyst stage, and then freezing the embryos for later transfer (Frozen embryo transfer - FET). Preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) is the term often used for testing the embryo for a specific genetic abnormality, such as cystic fibrosis.
Some patients will not be successful with IVF, and may be candidates to receive donated embryos. These embryos are created during an IVF cycle at MRM by a couple that has completed their family. Embryo donation at MRM is primarily done in an anonymous fashion.
Intrauterine insemination is a common and relatively low cost procedure that can help couples achieve pregnancy. Sperm is processed to obtain the best quality sperm from a semen sample, and then placed into the uterus via a simple office procedure. IUI can be performed with fresh or frozen sperm. Sperm can be obtained from the male partner or from a donor.
Dr. Hines performs the majority of his operative cases at Woman's and River Oaks hospitals. He has extensive experience and training in laparoscopy, hysteroscopy, correction of endometriosis, removal of fibroids, and correction of tubal ligation (tubal anastamosis). In addition, he spent 16 years in academic medical centers where he taught surgery to students and residents. Robotic surgery is used where beneficial.
Dr. Hines is trained in the treatment of a wide variety of disorders affecting the reproductive system, including amenorrhea/delayed puberty, hyperprolactinemia, hirsutism, and PCOS.
Dr. Hines has experience in the evaluation and treatment of Muellerian anomalies including uterine didelphys, bicorunate uterus, and septate uterus.
Endometriosis is a cause of both pain and infertility. Dr. Hines has experience in the medical and surgical treatment of this disorder. His practice focuses on the treatment of endometriosis as it relates to reproduction.
Fibroids or uterine myoma are causes of bleeding, pain, infertility and recurrent pregnancy loss. Dr. Hines focuses on these anatomic disorders primarily when preservation of the uterus is desired.
Approximately 5% of couples experiences the loss of two or more pregnancies. Dr. Hines has lectured and practiced extensively in this area. All phases of evaluation and treatment are offered at Mississippi Reproductive Medicine.

Your first step as a new patient will be to fill out your own medical history on the Patient Portal. This must be done prior to your first visit with us. If you are unable to complete this entry prior to your visit, it can be done while at MRM, but that will lengthen your visit.
The Patient Portal allows you to view your upcoming appointments, any laboratory tests that have been resulted, any treatment calendars we may have for you (such as an IVF treatment calendar), and most importantly, provides an efficient method of communication with our staff. Through the correspondence function on the Patient Portal you can place a message to our staff anytime, day or night. Those messages will be reviewed on the next working day, and within 24 hours we should have an answer for you. You will need to login to see the response. This method of communication is much like email, is HIPPA compliant and secure, and avoids frustrating "phone tag". The portal is best used for single, specific questions that can be answered quickly. If you have multiple questions, need in depth answers to complex questions, or just want to talk, we suggest you do that at a regularly scheduled appointment.
